Things To Do in Consett, Durham
Nestling in the grounds of the owner’s estate, this detached cottage is perfect to get away from it all, while being near to historic and cultural attractions. Enjoy a quiet breakfast in your own sitting out area, then head off down the country lanes into County Durham. Head east across the open countryside to the village of Lanchester, where you’ll find lots of dog friendly places to stop for a drink and a bite to eat.
Head west across the A68 from the cottage, and you’re in the Derwent Gorge and Muggleswick Woods National Nature Reserve. There are miles of quiet paths passing through peaceful woodland, and the Reserve is part of the much bigger North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The AONB is home to many lovely villages as well as natural splendour, so you’re never far from somewhere to enjoy a rest.
Take a drive to Durham and enjoy the city’s culture and history, including the World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral. County Durham has hundreds of miles of paths, cycle and bridleways, courtesy of the waggonways from its mining heritage, and the dog friendly Derwent Valley Railway Path is a particularly beautiful way to explore the county.
Slightly further afield, Waskerley Way joins both Teesdale and Weardale, which offer views and walks as beautiful as anywhere in England. Durham Cricket Club is nearby, with its historic Lumley Castle overlooking the pitch. Just in case you you need a fix of city living, culture and a bit of a party, Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead and Sunderland are all a half hour’s drive away.
Jasmine Cottage is a one level barn conversion, which makes superb use of the original building. Level access throughout, there are no stairs to worry about, the bedrooms have ensuite showers, and the whole cottage is naturally lit through huge, linked windows. The garden is lawned, has its own sitting out area where your furry friend will be able to stretch its legs, and is also part of a much bigger estate belonging to the owner. Even better, the open spaces of County Durham stretch out as far as the eye can see.
With natural beauty, including nationally important nature reserves, right on your doorstep, both people and pup will love all the things do do near the cottage. Not only that, there are lovely towns and villages all across the area where you can stop off for a dog friendly rest. Jasmine Cottage is perfectly placed to enjoy on its own, and to start enjoying the delights of the North East of England.
