Things To Do in Corbridge
This property is a mid terrace, stone built holiday home which still looks and feels like part of the farm surrounding it.
There are stunning views of open countryside from the cottage’s windows, which give a taste of the fun you and your furry friends can have in and around Harlow Hill.
The village sits on the Military Road, which follows the path of Hadrian’s Wall. Today, away from the road, nature has reclaimed the Northumbrian landscape in the area. A short doggy walk to the west lies the Whittle Dene Watercourse and Reservoir. This has plenty of signposted walks, as well as a nature reservation full of rare and protected wildlife.
This is Hadrian’s Wall country, and the World Heritage Site organizers produce a wealth of information on where to go with your four legged friends. The Wall itself is actually visible around Harlow Hill, and if you keep following its line to the west you’ll find the market town of Corbridge. This ancient but modern Northumberland settlement has everything you’ll need while you’re on holiday, including plenty of places to eat and drink. Corbridge also has its own mainline rail station, which leads west to Carlisle and east to Newcastle upon Tyne.
The Tyne Valley stretches out to the west, and is followed by the railway line and the A69. Follow these with your canine companions, and you’ll find plenty to explore in Hexham, Haydon Bridge and Haltwhistle. To the north west, the A68 will take you into Northumberland National Park, which stretches all the way to the Scottish Border. The Park is home to many beautiful villages and market towns, and walks and trails to keep your furry friend occupied.
The most famous feature of the National Park is Kielder, which is home to a reservoir, the Kielder Forest Park, Kielderhead National Nature Reserve, and even an observatory. Its secluded location makes it one of the darkest places in the UK, if you and your dog like watching the stars.
Kiln Field Cottage has a real country feel, and sits in the landscape perfectly. The location is remarkably quiet to be so close to Newcastle upon Tyne, which is only 8 miles away to the east.
For dog owners, the local countryside is begging to be explored, and there are plenty of signposted paths to follow. There’s also fishing, birdwatching and native species of plants and animals to look for. Hadrian’s Wall and other historic locations are also on your doorstep.
A quiet getaway can turn into a bigger adventure from this lovely cottage.
