Things To Do in Birling

This cosy stone cottage is located on the banks of the River Coquet in Warkworth. During the summer months, boats are accessible for hire and provide a distinctive way to enjoy the beautiful countryside, as well as pleasant riverside walks.

A 1⁄2 mile sandy beach extends 3 miles north to Alnmouth. Boat trips are accessible for sea fishing from neighbouring Amble and for viewing the Coquet Island seabirds. There are village shops and pubs nearby.

Warkworth is certainly one of Northumberland’s most scenic towns and not only has an outstanding variety of pubs, restaurants, cafes, art galleries and quality gift shops, but also a beautiful castle right in the centre of the village to admire and explore.

Warkworth’s splendid cross-shaped hold, crowning a hilltop steeply above the Coquet River, dominates one of Northern England’s biggest, strongest, and most impressive fortresses.

The Alnwick Garden is one of the world’s most remarkable modern gardens. It has a variety of interesting sights. From poisonous plants and treetop walkways to marvellous roses and towering delphiniums. Once a forgotten plot,The Alnwick Garden is a unique 21st-century experience full of imagination and fun, all brought to life with water.

There are beautiful walks along the river Coquet that surround the village to watch the abundance of wildlife such as herons, foxes, migrating birds, and a large, sandy beach with spectacular dunes and beautiful, far-reaching views up and down the Heritage Coastline. The beaches are the perfect playground for your canine companion. Acres of sandy beach for them to run around on.

Cyclists can take advantage of a simple 18-mile ride. The path does not have any significant climbs and is featured in the booklet ‘ Sustrans Cycle Northumberland ‘ which was recently released. The path heads west inland on quiet routes starting in the village and passes through Guyzance, Acklington and Broomhill. Joining the coast at Druridge Bay’s vast expanse and returning north through Amble’s fishing port.
