Things To Do in St Michael’s on Wyre
Nestling in the lovely Lancashire village of St Michael’s on Wyre, 4 miles south of the town of Garstang. The River Wyre is right next door, so any keen anglers in your party will be very happy.
There are a few fisheries in the area, with all the equipment and bait they’ll need. The river is also perfect for exploring with a canine companion or two. Pop into the village pub or visit the lovely old church, as a start or end point of a day out.
The local countryside has miles of signposted walks and trails, and the area is dotted with pubs and restaurants to keep everybody going. Garstang is a brisk doggie walk away, or a short trip in the car up the A586. This lovely market town has individual shops, plus a weekly Thursday market where you can pick up some fabulous local produce.
To the east of Garstang, across the M6 motorway, lies the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This is nature reserve based on peat bog and moorland, which is criss crossed by walking and cycling paths. There are also lots of beautiful villages in the AONB, where you can park the car and pop in for a well deserved drink or meal.
Slightly further east is the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which has all sorts of activities for a day out, for kids, adults and pups alike. To the west of St Michael’s is the Fylde coast, dominated by Blackpool and its world famous attractions.
Firtree House is a superb country farmhouse, big enough to accommodate up to 8 guests. It retains its rural charm, with a big open garden leading out onto open fields in some stunning countryside.
Inside the house, the stylish lounge has a superb electric wood burner and some lovely sofas, so you might feel like spending the evenings in rather than going out. If you do, however, there’s lots to do on your doorstep, from the charming local village and fish filled river to the outstanding local area.
You can spend the days with your party and pets walking the local byways, or head off into one of the nearby nature reserves. Or head out to Blackpool for an adventure of a different kind. However you spend your days, you’re sure to feel relaxed and de-stressed by night.
