Things To Do in Staithes
Staithes is a pretty fishing village, easily recognised by its tiny cottages and higgledy-piggledy streets.
A fantastic choice for walks with your four-legged friends with Boulby Cliffs in the background or simply along the coastline, exploring the former smugglers’ coves this shoreline is famous for.
If you’d like to see Staithes and the coves through the eyes of those who used them to their gain, take a trip on a local boat out to sea to really learn about the town’s role in smuggling through the centuries.
Spend at least one day of your holiday in the fantastic seaside town of Whitby. Its famous abbey at the top of a 199 step walk, is just one of the town’s biggest draws.
The town’s Goth Festival takes place twice a year with bands, quirky fashion and a party atmosphere. Whitby is believed to have been chosen for its links to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which is said to have been inspired by Whitby’s Abbey.
This gothic abbey has fantastic views over the harbour and out along the North Yorkshire coast. If you really want to experience Whitby like the locals do, then treat yourself to some smoked kippers from Fortune’s Kippers, the only remaining traditional smokehouse in the town.
Get there as early as possible because once the day’s catch has been smoked, the smokehouse closes. Whitby is home to plenty of independent shops and is perhaps most famous for Whitby Jet, a fossilised gemstone which is only found in the Whitby area, used in jewellery for centuries. Invest in a handmade piece of jewellery to take home with you and pass on to future generations.
An alternative choice for those who love traditional seaside towns is Saltburn-by-the-Sea which has a Victorian pier and Great Britain’s oldest water-balanced funicular railway.
Pooches are welcome to jump on board and enjoy the ride and the view from the top of the unique tramway. Saltburn-by-the-Sea has traditional amusement arcades, coffee shops and ice cream parlours for when you are feeling peckish.
Amrosa is a fantastic place to stay to explore the Staithes and Whitby area or quite simply as a relaxing place to get together as a family or with friends and just enjoy some quality time together.
Relax in the enclosed garden, safe in the knowledge that your four-legged friend can explore to their heart’s content or take a dip in the hot tub with beautiful views all around and a glass of your favourite tipple.
For those days when you want to experience the local area, there is plenty of choice.
From Whitby to Staithes, Saltburn-by-the-Sea or even a day trip to York for river cruises, excellent shopping, history and to enjoy lunch by the river, the house boasts a fantastic location and everything you need for a relaxing stay you will want to repeat year after year.
