Things To Do in Brompton-by-Sawdon
Brompton-by-Sawdon is a relaxing and peaceful little village just eight miles west of Scarborough. Watch the ducks and swans as they follow the stream through the village or enjoy an al fresco lunch in the picnic area.
The local church, All Saints’ Church, backs onto the property and is where William Wordsworth married in 1802. Visitors can view a copy of the wedding certificate in the church.
Scarborough is a fifteen-minute drive away from the cottage and remains a quintessentially British seaside town where visitors can choose from two large beaches to enjoy.
The long sandy North Bay beach has been awarded Blue Flag status and has an esplanade, hills and cliffs to set the scene whilst the wide beach at South Bay is very popular with families and surfers.
Beach huts behind the North Bay esplanade can be hired daily or for longer periods for an extra holiday treat. Peasholm Park, in North Bay, opened in 1912. It has an oriental theme and is a must-see spot.
It is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon with its water features, bridges, gardens and wildlife that the whole family can enjoy.
Dividing the two beaches are the ruins of the 12th century Scarborough Castle, set on a rocky headland, now an English Heritage site and is the only place in Scarborough that has such fantastic views of both the North and South bays.
A gentle twenty-minute stroll along the Marine Parade, a Victorian promenade, takes visitors from the North Bay to the South Bay or catch one of the open top buses to take in the views at a more leisurely pace.
Moving inland from the coast, the Yorkshire Wolds and the North York Moors offer breath-taking views and space for contemplation with fantastic walks for you and your canine friends.
These unique and diverse landscapes offer serenity and peace with their open heather moorlands, woodlands, unique geology and all the wildlife that live in these areas. The Moors are also Dark Skies sites and offer stunning, unspoilt panoramas by night.
