Things To Do in Boynton, Bridlington
The seaside town of Bridlington has everything you would expect from a Victorian spa town. From days digging sandcastles on its sandy beaches to ice cream and sticks of rock after fish and chip lunches, everyone will enjoy a holiday here.
There are several bird colonies in and around Bridlington, the most famous of which is RSPB Bempton Cliffs in the town’s north bay. See puffins, guillemots and razorbills here or head to Hornsea Mere to the south for wildfowl and Spurn Point for migrating birds in the autumn, when rare species can also be spotted. The Yorkshire Belle boat offers popular boat trips to Bempton Cliffs and other places around the bay.
A stretch of rugged white cliffs is the backdrop for Flamborough Head, a short drive from Bridlington. The water is wilder here and the scenery more rugged. Popular with walkers and cyclists, dogs will love being able to run freely on its beach and are very welcome to join you for lunch at the dog-friendly Headlands Restaurant nearby. There is an excellent three-mile round walk which takes in the lighthouses along these chalky cliffs which is perfect for dog walking.
A Special Area of Conservation, the birdwatching opportunities are fantastic here and for those who like a real adrenaline rush, sea canoeing is available in the bay, although it’s not for the faint of heart!
Less than twenty minutes away by car or train from Bridlington is the lovely seaside town of Filey with its promenade and salty sea air, perfect for a walk with your canine friend.
Quieter than Bridlington, it has a beautiful bay of golden sand and a more relaxing pace to it. The glorious sandy beach is home to the occasional seal in spring and throughout the year it is the perfect spot to fly a kite, build a sandcastle and watch the boats in the harbour. Visit the RNLI Filey lifeboat station to learn about the crew’s dramatic sea rescues over time and to see the boat in the lifeboat house, ready for action in the North Sea.
Bumblebee Cottage has the best of two worlds – countryside views and a fantastic location near to clean, sandy beaches. Enjoy a day out in Bridlington with amusement arcades and fish and chips or head to Filey for a slower pace and relax with your four-legged friend as you enjoy the view out to sea.
Birdwatchers will love the opportunity to see puffins and rare birds in their natural habitat with the sound of the sea lapping against the shore. Theatre, dance and musical lovers can enjoy a show at Bridlington Spa, a historic theatre where treading the boards dates back to Victorian times.
Make dinner together in the cottage’s modern kitchen then mull over the day’s highlights at the dining table on colder evenings or in the garden on a summer’s eve before getting some rest in the cottage’s comfy beds.
