Things To Do in Thirsk

The traditional market town of Thirsk has a lot to offer visitors. It’s the home town of author and vet James Herriot, and there’s a visitor centre, his house, surgery and even his car to look around. Thirsk has a selection of crafts, art and gifts shops, and there are a few antique stores as well.

For meals out, the town boasts cafes and a choice of traditional pubs. For fine views, explore Sutton Bank National Park. The easy walking trails are perfect for the dogs and there’s a place to hire bikes plus an adventure playground for the kids.

A visit to Yorkshire isn’t complete without a stroll on the famous Dales or the North York Moors. Both areas offer hikes of different lengths and difficulties.

The city of York is around 40 minutes’ away by car. An exciting place, there’s the Jorvik Viking museum, York Minster, shops, pubs and coffee shops to visit. You can also walk the full length of the city wall and see the sites from up high.

Our Thoughts

Woodland Lakes Lodges has a great location. Positioned between the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, there is plenty of space to get outside and explore the beautifully countryside.
