Map of Area

Things To Do in Hull

Sunk Island is neither an island nor is it sinking, but it is an area of wild marshland sprinkled with houses. A flat piece of land, it sticks out into the Humber just 16 miles from the cultural city of Hull.

For spotting wildlife, this is the place to head. Spurn Point at the very tip of Sunk Island has a bird observatory of real importance.

Visitors enjoy this volunteer-run location where rare birds and seals can be seen. The salt marshes in the area provide more places to find natural wildlife and plants, plus a pathway along Stone Creek gives you a great place to walk with the dog.

Withernsea is nearby. This East Yorkshire seaside town is a delightful place to visit with a long sandy beach, amusement arcades and a selection of eateries including fine fish and chip shops. In the middle of the town is a lighthouse that boasts an interesting museum with old photographs. There is thought to be a connection with the author Tolkien to the area too.

Our Thoughts

Woodlea Cottage is in a quiet part of East Yorkshire. Nestled on Sunk Island, in amongst salt marshes and wildlife reserves, it’s the place to go to get close to nature and spend some quiet time away.

With Hull just 14 miles away, a stop at this cultural city should be part of the holiday wish list. With an old town, museums, art galleries and a theatre there is plenty to see in Hull.

A schedule of festivals and events take place regularly, especially during the summer months, so make sure to check the ‘What’s On’ news so you don’t miss something unique while you’re here.
