Things To Do in Dalton-in-Funess
Nestling in the heart of the Furness peninsula, one of northern England’s hidden gems, in 2 acres of land behind your own electric gates.
Escape the stress and strain of the city and enjoy quality time with the family, as extended as you like, including up to 4 furry friends. Pub ¾ mile away, shop 1 mile, restaurant 1½ miles, beach 3½ miles. Once the electric gates are closed, you might be tempted to stay in the grounds.
However, the views of the stunning landscape will tempt you out to explore Furness, now part of Cumbria but traditionally part of Lancashire, lying between the Irish Sea and Morecambe Bay.
Take the dogs for a long walk, or drive west to Dalton-in-Furness, with its neatly laid out streets, dog friendly pubs and eateries, plus all the shops and facilities of a thriving town.
Further west is Roanhead, with its superb beach, and the headland housing the National Trust’s Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve.
This is a haven for wildlife, especially migrating and native birds, and your four legged friends will love exploring the long grass, dunes and sea front. Take a good camera, as there are spectacular views across the sea towards the Isle of Man.
This area is also known as the South Lakes, as it lies just across from the Lake District National Park proper.
Spend a morning or afternoon at the South Lakes Safari Zoo, which has walk through trails to explore, and the chance to feed jaguars and other big cats, not to mention photo opportunities with the giraffes, monkeys and rhinos.
To the south west lies the major town of Barrow-in-Furness, home of the Dock Museum. From Barrow, you can cross the bridge to historic Vickerstown, on Walney Island, which has white sandy beaches at its north end, and fabulous views in all directions.
Meadow View combines sheer luxury with stunning views of the South Lakes, in detached home with 2 acres to relax in. With its games room and kids play area, there is everything you need without going anywhere, but you’ll soon be tempted to explore the local landscapes with your canine companions.
Furness is much quieter than the nearby Lake District, so you’ll have plenty of time and space for some relaxing doggie walks.
Dalton-in-Furness is a lovely place to spend the morning or afternoon, doing as little as you like, or planning a day out further afield.
With Barrow-in-Furness a short drive away, and coastline all around the peninsula, you’re spoilt for choice of walks and scenic views and things to do. A luxury home from home in a special part of England.
