Things To Do in Bowness-on-Windermere, Nr Droomer
Nestled at the end of a quiet lane just outside the bustling Lakeland town of Bowness-on-Windermere, with the whole of the Lake District National Park on your doorstep.
Shops, pubs and restaurants within a couple of hundred yards, with independent retailers in a town which retains its charm all year round, even at the height of tourist season. One world famous visitor attraction in the own is the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, which has interactive exhibits helping give an insight into the author’s inspiration, as well as her contribution the conservation of the Lakes.
Carry on through Bowness, and you’re on the shore of Lake Windermere. There’s a long promenade, which gives amazing views across the lake, and is a good starting point for a walk. The lakeside has miles of dog friendly walks, around what is the biggest of all the Lakes. At its north end is Ambleside, and at the south, Lakeside.
Either of these two beautiful Lakeland villages are worth spending a quiet morning or afternoon visiting, and there is a steamboat service to both from Bowness. There is also a ferry across the lake to Far Sawrey, which gives access to some stunning fellside walks and trails, although these are quite steep. The village of Hawkshead is a popular destination, and it includes the Beatrix Potter Gallery.
Back across the Lake, to the north of Bowness is the charming village of Troutbeck, and the nearby attraction of Holehird Gardens. This has superb sculpted landscapes and Victorian greenhouses, all overlooking the Lake and the fells beyond; a unique, romantic setting.

There are plenty of energetic activities on the Lake if that’s your kind of thing, while the lakeside cafes and tea rooms in Bowness are perfect for taking a well earned break. You can enjoy the National Trust properties in the area, and unique attractions like Holehird Gardens.
A short drive in any direction will take you to some world famous beauty spots, and there’s lots of woodland and wildlife to enjoy. Peg’s Place is ideal for a quiet break for two, or three if you include a canine companion
