Underwood cottage is surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery the Lake District has to offer. Ambleside, Grasmere, Hawkshead and Windermere are all within a short drive of the cottage. The trails at Grizedale Forest are perfect for ramblers and cyclists alike with Wetherlam and Coniston Old Man boasting scenic rambling opportunities as well as more vigorous walks, bike trails and climbs for the more active ones amongst your group not forgetting your four legged friend.
Of course, no visit to the Lake District would be complete without sampling some of the many water sports on offer which local to the cottage include canoeing and sailing. For those in your group who want a more relaxing water experience, the Gondola steam yacht offers leisure cruises for all the family or try a spot of fishing at Esthwaite Water.
Underwood is in such an excellent base to explore the local villages from including the well known breath-taking beauty spot of Tarn Hows. If you are lover of Beatrix Potter then it is well worth visiting the Beatrix Potter gallery in the village of Hawkshead or the former home and grounds of John Ruskin, Brantwood.
