Things To Do in Allithwaite
Hidden in the trees of a private woodland retreat, with 15 acres of unspoiled forest at your disposal.
Escape the stress and noise of the city with a unique holiday in South Lakeland, enjoying country walks with one or two canine companions by your side. Pub serving delicious food less than a mile away.
Take your doggie chums on a walk through Blenkett Woods, north and west to the dog friendly pub up Jack Hill on the outskirts of Allithwaite.
Head east and south through the woods, and look for Kirkhead Tower, a restored Norman fortress with stunning views of Morecambe Bay.
Take a drive south up Holy Well Lane, park up and visit Humphrey Head, surrounded by water on three sides, and an hour’s walk there and back, which your furry friends will love.
A short drive west takes you to Cark, home to the Lakeland Miniature Village, open between March 1st and October 31st. Cark also has a train station, with links to Grange over Sands to the east and west over the Leven estuary to the Lakeland town of Ulverston.
For a day out in the fresh air, take your pooches north of Cark to historic Holker Hall and Gardens, or further up the B5278 to the wonderful Roudsea Wood and Mosses National Nature Reserve.
Back towards the Woods, don’t miss the chance to visit Grange over Sands, which is something of a hidden gem in this part of Lakeland. Enjoy the Victorian Promenade with your canine companions, and stop off in one of the many dog friendly pubs, cafes and eateries in this genteel town, right on the western shore of Morecambe Bay.
To the north of Grange is the Lake District National Park itself, while on the other side of the bay is the magnificent Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
