Blairgowrie is called the gateway to Glenshee, an area of hills boasting the highest British road – the A93. The landscape is rugged here but it offers skiing, snowboarding, a chair lift, abseiling, hang gliding and mountain biking activities. There’s a great golf course too, and places nearby to fish.
In this area there’s a 60-mile circular walking route known as the Cateran Trail. The whole family plus the doggy can enjoy rambles through heather, across countryside and over stiles. Cargill’s Leap is an area of the River Ericht where the water cascades down rocks and ledges – it’s an impressive site to visit.
Pitlochry is a popular Scottish destination with lots to see and do. There’s a wide choice of fine restaurants, and friendly pubs are in abundance too. Shops and spas are dotted around the pretty town, and there are 2 distilleries in the area as well. Blair Athol is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and they have a visitors’ centre and choice of tours to discover.
Perth sits on the River Tay and is steeped in history. Balhousie Castle offers daily tours giving visitors an insight into the Black Watch Regiment and the sacrifices the men made. Scone Palace is an impressive stately home that has gardens, artwork, antiques and falconry displays to keep the whole family entertained.
Tweed shops, craft stores, antique shops and art galleries line the streets of Perth, and there is a long list of places to eat from takeaways to Michelin-starred restaurants.
