Things To Do in Bampton, Nr Witney
Downton Abbey has put Bampton on the map with visits to the locations of Downton’s grammar school, pubs and church within a 500 yard walk of The Plough. The village itself offers everything you need for a relaxing break. It has four pubs, a café, library, art gallery, butchers and post office and a pharmacy.
If you are looking to head further afield with your pooch to enjoy the fresh air that this village location offers, there are a number of cycle and footpaths available in the surrounding area, offering a pleasant 2.5 mile walk to the River Thames for you and your dog. The beautiful Cotswold villages of Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Norton, Burford and Bourton-on-the-Water are just half an hour’s drive away whilst the famous university city of Oxford is less than 40 minutes by car.
Nature lovers can also visit the Chimney Meadow Nature Reserve which is the largest nature reserve in Oxfordshire. Just two miles from the village, the reserve has opportunities for birdwatching, to see wildflowers in bloom and butterflies in their natural habitat.
