Things To Do in St Lawrence, Isle of Wight
Elm Cottage prides itself on its excellent location for those looking to get away from it all and enjoy walks on the beach, dinner, conversation and good wine with friends, yet it is also incredibly easy to take some time away from the cottage and head to the nearest local town of Ventnor, just five minutes away by car.
This picturesque seaside town has a popular shingle and sand beach and for those looking for the best catch of the day, freshly caught fish is available at the marina. Ventnor bloomed as a spa town in the Victorian era and was known as both ‘Mayfair by the Sea’ and the ‘English Mediterranean’ – quite the accolades. For an authentic local pint head to The Spyglass Inn with views over the sea and sailing themed artefacts.
If walking and exploring on foot taking in the wonderful sea air, is on the agenda for the day, there are a number of coastal paths which traverse the cottage’s location. Heading in either direction upon leaving the cottage, there are sea, beach and cliff walks which your four-legged friend is guaranteed to enjoy.
Local attractions enjoyed by all ages include the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary which also welcomes well behaved dogs and Osborne House, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s palatial holiday home. For kids young and old, head to Blackgang Chine, the UK’s oldest theme park where cowboys, dinosaurs, fairies and pirates come to life.
For sports-lovers, the Isle of Wight offers plenty of choice. From horse riding, fishing, and golf to paragliding and cycling, you are just a short drive away from trying something new or enjoying a favourite past time on this lovely island. Ventnor Golf Club, the oldest golf club on the Isle of Wight, is the nearest one to the cottage and some say it has the best views on the island.
With its own microclimate reminiscent of the Mediterranean and the flora and fauna to match, Elm Cottage has an incredible location where you can wake up, step outside and breathe in the unmistakable scent of pure sea air.
With the adjoining cottage also available for bookings, subject to availability, Elm Cottage offers flexibility for groups and dogs who really are part of the family. The cottage’s fresh, welcoming feel with its homely kitchen and living room and comfy bedrooms offer space to relax, unwind and enjoy a slower side to life.
With beautiful views, unique experiences and enjoyable local towns steeped in regal British history and loved by Queen Victoria herself, the Isle of Wight is a place to come back to time and time again and Elm Cottage has its own unique pinpoint on the map of this isle
