Things To Do in Broadstairs, Kent
Fresh air and outdoor activities are on the agenda for a stay at Owls Croft. Your dog will love a run on the beach at Dumpton Gap where four-legged friends receive a very warm welcome, all year round.
Just one of the beautiful beaches along the coastline between Broadstairs and Ramsgate, Dumpton Gap is lined with chalk cliffs and at low tide you can see and explore the rock pools found on the beach. There is a beach café, recommended by locals, for admiring the stunning views.
The walk from Broadstairs to Ramsgate takes around 45 minutes but can be longer if exploring the sights along the journey is a must-do for a truly relaxing holiday. When the tide is in head along the beach and breathe in the refreshing sea air and when it’s out, head up to the cliffs and walk along the designated path there. On a clear day you can even see the French coastline.
Broadstairs is home to the Dickens House Museum, once the home of Miss Mary Pearson Strong, Dickens’ inspiration for Miss Betsey Trotwood in David Copperfield. Dickens holidayed here and said it was the “freshest, freest place”. You can decide for yourself if he was right.
Two of the town’s most famous bays are Botany Bay, the original bay which was the inspiration for the famous Australian bay of the same name, and Viking Bay which curls around the coastline. A nationally-recognised surf school is located in Joss Bay for surfing lessons.
Ramsgate is steeped in maritime history with the Ramsgate Maritime Museum offering a fantastic insight into the town’s maritime history.
With a 700 berth marina lined by cafés and restaurants for a spot of cosmopolitan dining and good coffee. Visit the Ramsgate Tunnels to see the famous labyrinth of tunnels used as air raid shelters by 60,000 people during the Second World War. Book in advance to secure your place on a tour and learn how people coped during the air raids.
With an enviable location just minutes from the beach, Owls Croft is the perfect choice for a relaxing beach-focused break with your dog.
From pleasant daily walks to explore the area and take in the views from and of the chalk cliffs to relaxing by the marina at Ramsgate or enjoying dinner for two in one of Broadstairs’ restaurants, there is so much to do in the area, all with your favourite pooch by your side.
The opportunity to learn to surf or to see local history explained by locals and to visit the inspiration for one of England’s most famous literary classics should also not be missed.
Of course you could also simply choose to relax on an evening and dine in the garden of the cottage where a welcome pack for both you and your dog awaits on arrival.
