Wisborough Green is a pretty village just under a mile away where there’s a 12th -century church, 2 traditional pubs serving tasty food and a village shop. In the summer they play cricket on the green and events of all kinds take place here. Petworth House is close by, a mansion that is as elaborate as Versailles with many treasures to discover.

There are paintings by Turner and Van Dyck on the walls, as well as rugs, candelabras and furniture created by the highest craftsmen in the rooms. The servant’s quarters are fascinating, and the deer park and gardens were landscaped by Capability Brown. The Goodwood Estate is in this part of Sussex too – this 12,000-acre piece of land is famous for the horse racing and motorsport festivals that take place here.

Our Thoughts

Buttercup is an ideal place to stay if you are visiting Sussex, the South Downs and High Weald. Doggies are welcome to stay so there’s no need to leave your pooch behind on this holiday.

The home is comfortable and modern with a small seating area on the patio. A fully fitted kitchen gives you all that you need to self-cater, and a sofa area is just the place to curl up and watch a movie.

With a bright double bedroom complete with en-suite shower room, it’s just the right size for 2 people. Perfect if you’re going to Goodwood or plan to tour Petworth House and gardens.
