Things To Do in Milton Abbas, Nr Blandford Forum
Milton Abbas is a picture perfect village in Dorset made up of chocolate box thatch cottages that were built to serve the estate. The Hambro Arms pub comes highly recommended for its food and cream tea.
Milton Abbey is more than 1,000 years old and is an incredible building. Next to it is a private school that limits access, but there is much to see that will leave you breathless. The tea room is worthy of a mention by itself. Just 7 miles from Milton Abbas is Blandford Forum, a town with an interesting museum that’s free to enter.
The Hall and Woodhouse Brewery offers tours which are popular with fans of their Badger Ales. You can eat here too in the restaurant and tuck into British favourites like ham, egg and chips or steak pie and mash. There’s a nice selection of shops including small boutique stores and a large supermarket, plus the town boasts a market every Thursday and Saturday.
To give the dog a nice long walk, head up Hambledon Hill on the edge of town, the views are amazing from the top and it’s a great place to take a picnic. Sherborne Castle and Gardens has connections to Walter Raleigh and William of Orange. There is a lot to see here so leave yourself at least 3 hours to do it justice.
The town is lovely too, with an old abbey, steam museum and a choice of great places to eat. Enjoy a day at the beach while you’re here, the Dorset coast is 20 miles south. Poole, Bournemouth and Lulworth can be reached with ease, and at Durdle Door doggies are permitted onto the sands all year round.

There’s Hambledon Hill and Bulbarrow Hill both come with views far across the countryside. It’s also not far to the beach, with Poole and Lulworth around 45 minutes away. The sands stretch for miles so you can choose a lively area to visit, or one of the quieter parts that are peaceful and unspoilt.
