Things To Do in St Columb Major, West Cornwall
Nestling in the grounds of the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, near Winnard’s Perch in the heart of rolling countryside. Get right away from the big city with your four legged friend and enjoy the peace, quiet, views and pathways in this superb part of Cornwall.
Pub and restaurant ¼ mile, shop 2 miles, beach 5 miles away. Let the dog play on the artificial lawn in your own enclosed private garden, before heading out for the day.
Ten pounds will get you a visitors’ pass for the Birds of Prey Centre, for as many people as you need, for a whole week. The Centre is a family run, not for profit organisation which rehabilitates injured or unwanted raptors, including hen harriers.
Enjoy a spot of fishing on the nearby lakes, or follow one of the many streams and paths into the heart of the country. The River Menalhyl flows west, and a longish doggie walk or short drive takes you along its banks to the Japanese Garden at St. Mawgan, or the lovely Lanvean Bottoms nature reserve just to the north east, where pooch can spend some quality time rootling through the woods.
A short drive to the north lies the Trevose Head Heritage Coast, starting with the National Trust’s Bedruthan Steps vantage point. Here you’ll find some of the UK’s most stunning views, around Cornish coves and sea stacks.
Stop off for some refreshments at the cafe, and pick up the South West Coast Path which leads up to Trevose Head Lighthouse.
To the east is Padstow, the charming fishing village which is also home to Rick Stein and lots of foodie delights. The village is at the head of the beautiful Camel Estuary, with a path leading inland to Wadebridge, and boat rides across the estuary to the charming village of Rock.
Hen Harrier Lodge is a superb, state of the art holiday lodge with everything a family, group of friends or colleagues could want for a unique break in the Cornish countryside, with a faithful furry friend along to enjoy the ride.
From its enclosed garden with artificial lawn for doggie to run around on, to the raised, private decking with a five seater hot tub, you might not want to go far from the lodge itself.
However, the natural wonders surrounding the lodge are there to be explored, not least the superb Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, where you can close to some of nature’s most beautiful wild creatures.
Enjoy the nearby Heritage Coast, with miles of superb views and walks along the South West Coast Path, and don’t miss the culinary and cultural highlights of Padstow.
