Things To Do in Exeter
With the lodge as your base, you can step out onto a number of trails that criss-cross the forest just outside the front door.
There is a storage area for mountain bikes on site as well as four bikes that can be rented so you can fully explore what Haldon Forest has to offer. There are 600 deer roaming freely so be mindful of your dog at all times and a leash is advised.
The forest is packed full of activities such as play sets for kids, a pump loop which allows you to traverse a looped course with minimal pedalling of your mountain bike as well as things like orienteering courses.
You can even tour the forest on a Segway with Go-Segway, by far the easiest and most relaxing way to wind your way through the forest.
If you are looking for something to get the adrenaline pumping, go vertical with the original Go Ape adventure course. Strap in for some seriously high zip lining, climbing and swinging action that is fun for the whole family.
Scale to heights above the treetops to get one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Devon landscape out there.
If you fancy a flurry on the horses, Exeter race track is mere minutes walk away from the lodge and historic Exeter city centre is a short 10 minute drive away.
Here you can soak in some culture with Red Coat guided tours, galleries, museums and market days every Thursday. There are a plethora of shops, pubs and restaurants to explore as well.
If you want to travel a little further afield, the beaches in Dawlish are a great place to relax and unwind whilst taking a leisurely stroll with your four-legged friend.
Teignmouth also sports a lovely long beach that doesn’t get over crowded, even in summer. It stretches for miles and features an impressive Victorian pier.
There is plenty of family fun to be had in both seaside towns. Just remember to pack dog poop bags so that your pooch doesn’t leave mess on the beaches.
Halford Forest Lodge offers so much to do directly from your doorstep, from hiking trails to adventure courses. Hidden away in amongst the trees, you are truly connected to the wilderness around you.
You have the option of trying to fit in as many activities as you can during your stay or just laying back and relaxing in the cosy cottage with all the mod cons.
If you have been out on the trails all day, there is no better way to unwind than sipping sundowners in the bubbling hot tub.
The lodge is a real hideaway from the hurly burly of modern life and allows you and your furry companion to get back to nature.
