Things To Do in Ottery St Mary
This fantastic holiday home is part of the grounds of an estate near the Devon hamlet of Fluxton. Sitting next to the River Otter, this is an area of working farmland, nestling next to the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The nearest village is Ottery St. Mary, a dog-friendly two miles away up river to the north east. If you take your four legged friends in the other direction, the coastal town of Sidmouth lies five miles to the south. There are lots of signposted paths and trails, which you can do on foot or bike.
Sidmouth sits in the middle of the Jurassic Coast, a unique stretch of natural landscapes which has yet more opportunities for fresh air, exercise and mind-blowing views. To the east of Sidmouth, just on the edge of the AONB, is the coastal settlement of Beer. Chalk cliffs overlook a secluded bay, with buildings right up to the beach. If you and your canine companion/s are feeling thirsty, the Anchor Inn will replenish you while you take in the amazing scenery.
For a different type of adventure, the cathedral city of Exeter is a short drive down the A30. The city’s history dates back to the Romans, and there is a huge list of heritage trails to enjoy. More recently, in the Middle Ages, Exeter gathered its water supply from the surrounding hills, and there are underground tunnels to explore from where this water supply once slaked the city’s thirst.
Om Shanti’s secluded rural location is perfect for romantic breaks, while it also has plenty of room for your dog or dogs to enjoy themselves too. The layout is a mixture of old and new, with original beams throughout, and the amazing electric aga in the kitchen, which also powers the central heating.
The interior has a cosy feel, while being lit from all sides and above by the many windows in the cottage. Nearby, Fluxton, Ottery St. Mary and other local villages ooze charm, and the countryside surroundings are second to none.
If you need inspiration, for a romantic getaway or doggie holiday, Om Shanti is the holiday home to die for.
