Tucked away in green valleys and wooded hills, Sherborne is less than 15 minutes from 4 Saxon Maybank by car. A pretty, traditional Dorset town, it has timber framed buildings and is rich in history and culture. Sherborne Abbey is worth a visit and holds regular classical music concerts against a stunning backdrop.
Founded in AD 705, the abbey has developed from a Saxon church before becoming the home to a monastic community and finally to its current role as a beautiful parish church.
Sherborne is a popular destination for food-lovers. Choose from a wide variety of restaurants, cafés and head to the town’s farmers’ market for locally grown produce which is as fresh as it gets.
Stock up on goodies to prepare a hearty meal back at the cottage. Head to the Haynes International Motor Museum to see classic Bentleys and Rolls Royces from the 1950s and 1960s on display alongside super-fast cars such as a Jaguar XJ220.
