Things To Do in Dorchester
The name Hebe comes from one of this delightful cottage’s owners horses. That gives a hint of the rural feel of this superb holiday home location, in the heart of the countryside.
The cottage’s front door opens onto the valley of the River Frome, which is bordered by bridleways and signposted walks, ideal for your energetic four legged friend or friends. Easily within doggie walking distance is the nearby village of Maiden Newton, which has more facilities than many small towns, including a post office and petrol station.
Maiden Newton is a great place to start exploring the local area. Straddling the Frome, the village is on the western edge of the Hog Cliff National Nature Reserve, a haven for wildlife sweeping down into the valley. Maiden Newton also has a mainline train station, where you can take your canine companion on some further adventures. This is the Heart of Wessex line, which runs between Castle Cary and the seaside resort of Weymouth. There are very reasonable day ranger tickets available.
Notton sits right in the middle of the an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which has plenty of routes and help available for dog owners. To the south of the area is the West Dorset Heritage Coast, complete with cliff top walks and stunning views. Weymouth lies at the end of this coast, and is perfect for a day by the sea. Further inland, the historic county town of Dorchester has hundreds of dog friendly attractions, not to mention places to eat, drink and relax after a tiring day’s exploring.
Further to the north, across the border in Somerset, is the major town of Yeovil. This regional centre has everything any holiday maker could need, as well as being home to some world famous tourist attractions in its own right. Your dog will love Ninesprings, a huge country park with plenty of scenic views and paths to explore. Montacute House, a National Trust property, is also great for a day out.
Hebe is a beautiful converted barn in a delightful rural setting. Perfect for a romantic break, or as a base for a different type of holiday. Two kids can easily join the fun, as well as two four legged friends.
The open plan, level access living area and French windows give the cottage an open feel, and the garden outside is the gateway to a truly fabulous local area.
Whether you want to get away from it all, or take the chance to explore Dorset, Hebe has everything you’re looking for.
