Things To Do in Moreton
Stars cottage is a unique holiday home set in the grounds of a village pub. The owner had it built specially away from the main street, so total privacy is assured. The best of both worlds, of course, is that you can pop next door for a drink and a meal whenever you want. You and your furry friend or friends are welcome to make yourselves at home.
The village itself sits in the heart of the Frome valley, and there are plenty of bridleways, paths and trails to explore. A short doggie walk away is the beautiful St. Nicholas’ Church, a typical English parish church; however, this one happens to house the grave of Lawrence of Arabia, who was a native of the area.
This piece of history is fitting for this part of Dorset, which is also home to the county town of Dorchester, and the Cerne Giant chalk carving. Extended country walks with your four legged friend are likely to come across some remarkable local history.
There are also plenty of modern attractions nearby with dog friendly visitors centres and plenty to do on days out. These include the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre and the Tank Museum, not name just two. To the south of Moreton are the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Hartland Moor National Nature Reserve. There are many miles of bridleways and signposted paths for you and your dog to explore, not to mention some stunning scenery. The AONB is bounded to the south by the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. This is best viewed from the South West Coast Path, a cliff top path with some astonishing views.
The Path passes Durdle Door, a limestone arch in the sea which is one of the most photographed natural features in the UK. Just along the coast is Man O’ War Beach, a perfect semi circular bay with a beach your furry friend will love exploring. The Jurassic Coast visitor centre is also nearby, at West Lulworth. There are plenty of inns and eateries to keep you going on your walk around this fabulous stretch of coastline.
Stars Cottage is a brilliant hideaway with access to everything a country holiday should have. The two bedrooms give the choice of a romantic break for two, or other options like a real family holiday, complete with four legged friends.
Being right next to a pub and restaurant is an excellent start to any holiday, and the local area is bursting with history, modern attractions and truly outstanding natural beauty.
For a quiet romantic getaway, or a fun filled, dog friendly country holiday, Stars Cottage is perfect.
