Things To Do in Blandford Forum
The market town of Blandford Forum boasts stunning Georgian architecture, a charming parish church and a market place which is still used today.
Located on the River Stour, the town is recognised as the most complete, small Georgian town in England. Blandford Forum’s market place is lined with independent shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs.
The Great Dorset Steam Fair takes place in the town once a year and is the world’s largest heritage and cultural event of its kind, showcasing life from a bygone era.
Over 2,000 exhibitors attend and there is even an old time steam funfair to enjoy. If style and fashion are your cup of tea, a visit to Blandford Fashion Museum is an absolute must or head to Kingston Lacy, once a former family home which was styled as a Venetian Palace. The house is ideal for a romantic picnic and to visit its extensive art collection.
The seaside town of Bournemouth is an excellent choice if walks along the beach and seafront hand in hand are on the agenda. This traditional seaside town still has a pier which harks back to its days as a Victorian resort and a selection of its beaches welcome dogs.
Bournemouth has some fantastic intimate restaurants for those who wish to treat their loved one and dine in style with magnificent food on the menu.
Look out for the free-roaming ponies in the New Forest National Park. Walkers, cyclists and nature-lovers are well catered for here. See butterflies, wading birds, deer, heathland plants and woodland flowers on a walk or a bike ride through the park.
There are regular events held at the park, from choirs to craft sessions, so check in advance for something that is of interest to you.
The park is also an incredible place for stargazing, with low levels of light pollution, amongst the lowest in the south east, so head here to see which stars you can spot together.
Downwood Art Studio is a lovely country bolthole for a romantic getaway accompanied by your canine companion.
From the cosy bedroom to the perfectly sized kitchen and the relaxing garden and hot tub, a stay here is guaranteed to refresh and revitalise you. From stargazing to a barbecue or just a cup of tea with breakfast on the patio, you will go home feeling relaxed and revived.
