Things To Do in Wimborne Minster
Wimborne is a pretty market town in East Dorset, famous for the grand church at its centre. The Minster building that stands today was built in 1120 on the site of a destroyed nunnery.
The two church towers dominate the town’s skyline, and inside there’s an astronomical clock from the 14th century. A market is held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning in the square of the town, and the high street has a nice selection of shops and supermarkets.
Kingston Lacy is a lavish mansion house filled with interesting artefacts and curiosities. Art lovers will enjoy the original Reubens, Titian and Van Dyck paintings on the walls.
There are 8,500 acres of grounds to explore with formal gardens, heathland and woodland to roam. Dogs are welcome in the grounds and the courtyard on a lead.
Moors Valley Country Park is a beautiful place to spend the day. You can walk the pathways, hire a bike, fish for perch, spot wildlife and enjoy a picnic here. There’s a visitor centre and a gift shop, plus a Go Ape for active types.
The coast is 30 minutes away with the towns of Poole and Bournemouth to visit. The beach at Bournemouth is 7 miles long and has dog-friendly zones where pooches can play any day of the year.
Sandbanks is close by too, with wide beaches, fine cafes and a choice of water sports to try. Hengistbury Head is a wetland area with a harbour and a thin bank of sand in the sea.
You can walk for miles or hop on the land train – your furry companion is welcome on board too.
The Gate House has been renovated with care. Every room in this 7-bedroom, 5-bathroom holiday home is stylish and comfortable.
For a great holiday with extended family or friends, you can’t find anywhere better. The kitchen has a been decorated in a country style with a large Aga and scrubbed-pine table.
