Things To Do in Wimborne
The market town of Wimborne is famous for its Minster and Tivoli Theatre which was built in 1936 as a cinema/theatre. The theatre’s tradition of showing both films and live stage shows offers a unique experience in an old fashioned theatre environment.
Visit Wimborne Minster which was founded as a monastery in AD 705 before being adapted to its current more recognisable build by the Normans between 1120 and 1180.
One of the most curious sights in the Minster is its Chained Library, which when first constructed in 1686 was one of the first public libraries in the country.
At a time when religious books were being destroyed, the initial books donated were chained to the bookcases to protect them, and the collection of books, from theological to recipe books, some dating back to the 12th century, remain chained today.
For fresh food, baked goods and everyday essentials, or to treat yourself to some new clothes, visit the town’s market. The largest covered market in the south of England, it is especially popular at weekends.
Bournemouth’s beach has been voted the best beach in England, not once, but twice! Its seven mile long stretch of unspoilt coastline and golden sands has everything you’d expect from a traditional seaside resort, from amusements to a pier, or visit the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, an Italian style villa perched on a cliff overlooking the bay.
Bournemouth’s beaches are dog-friendly, making them ideal for a run or a walk with your pooch. Some restrictions apply depending on the time of year so check in advance which one is best for you and your furry friend.
Explore Poole’s Old Town or sit and watch the boats in the harbour.
Set out to sea on an RNLI rescue lifeboat with the RNLI College Discovery Tours and learn about how rescues are handled at sea as well as seeing the RNLI’s training facilities.
If a day building sandcastles and soaking up the sun, or breathing in the sea air is more your cup of tea, head to dog-friendly Sandbanks Beach for golden sands stretching as far as the eye can see.
The Old Dairy at Bedborough Farm Cottages is perfectly situated for a holiday near Wimborne which combines unique historical sites, Blue Flag golden sandy beaches and unique theatre and cinematic experiences.
The cottage’s semi-rural location is bound to please those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with their family.
