Things To Do in Wimborne
Boasting the south of England’s largest covered market, the nearest town of Wimborne is the perfect place to stock up on fresh fruit, meat, vegetables, fish and bread for your stay.
It’s also a great choice for gifts and souvenirs or just as a holiday treat for yourself. Whilst in Wimborne, visit the town’s Minster with its famous Chained Library with books dating back to the 12th century or spend a day at the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy, once a lavish family home which was built to resemble a Venetian Palace.
Take a walk in the gardens and spend some time in the house’s lavish rooms where you’ll find works by Rubens, Titian,Van Dyck, and Brueghel. In summer enjoy a picnic in the grounds or take a walk on a crisp, frosty morning through the Winter Gardens.
If a day at the beach building sandcastles and paddling in the sea, eating ice creams and enjoying a show appeal to you then head to Bournemouth for seven miles of Blue Flag sandy beaches, many of which welcome dogs for a splash in the sea.
Like many UK seaside resorts, Bournemouth first developed as a holiday destination and health spa during the Victorian era and many of the charms of the time such as its Victorian pier are a feature of this seaside resort today.
Visit in summer for the Bournemouth Air Festival to see the Red Arrows, Spitfires and Lancaster bombers in action.
An alternative wildlife based adventure awaits at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest. Locomotive fans will love a ride on the steam engine at the Moors Valley Railway.
The park welcomes dogs who have their own water bowls and somewhere to sit (outside) at the on-site restaurant. Bikes are available for hire at the park and cyclists will love the Through the Forest cycle trail. For young visitors there are two play areas, Gruffalo sculptures and two trails perfect for little legs.
A stay at the The Parlour at Bedborough Farm Cottages offers a perfect mix of relaxing walks and time in the hot tub with plenty of beach, countryside and cultural activities nearby.
For coastal and riverside scenery, the beach at Bournemouth, harbour at Poole and Christchurch’s Priory Church and Castle ruins are some of the favourites in the area.
For outdoor adventures, Moors Valley Country Park and the New Forest National Park are popular, or you can simply take a walk with your four-legged friend near the cottage.
The cottage is the perfect place to spend some time together as a family, whether it’s in the hot tub, in the garden patio area or in the cosy living room catching up on films with a view of the countryside outside of the cottage’s patio doors.
