Things To Do in East Ogwell, Nr Newton Abbot

East Ogwell is a pretty village in Devon that has narrow lanes and thatched cottages. The Jolly Sailor pub comes highly recommended, and there are many more in Newton Abbot just a mile away.

Dartmoor National Park gives you miles of spectacular countryside to wander with the dog and family. Criss crossed with paths for walking or cycling you can spend hours discovering this wild landscape. Spot the famous wild ponies and other animals like deer, buzzards and warblers as you ramble.

There is a Go Ape centre close by where thrill seekers can climb the high ropes and whizz down the zip wire. Other family favourites in the area include Paignton Zoo and Totnes Rare Breeds centre. Devon is well-known for its sandy beaches and seaside towns. Torquay is a booming place that boasts a harbour lined with yachts and a huge choice of eateries including Michelin starred restaurants.

Paignton is a little further along the coast and is a real bucket-and-spade place. Families like it here and enjoy the traditional pier, deckchairs and tea shops. There are festivals here in the summer time such as the Harbour Festival when everyone comes to visit from far and wide to join in the fun.

Totnes is a town steeped in history and it sits on the River Dart. Totnes Castle is one of the best reserved motte and bailey castles around and if you climb to the top, you are rewarded by views that stretch on for miles.

A textile museum can also be found in the town, along with a 15th-century church and a small high street. And in the square there’s a market held on every Friday and Saturday.

Our Thoughts

Bardon Lodge is a real home-from-home and a great quiet place to stay on holiday in Devon. With room for 5 people, the 2 bedrooms, living room and kitchen are neatly decorated and fitted with everything you need.

To relax a while in the garden, head out to the deck and enjoy the enclosed outdoor space. Not only can you also spend time in the 10-acre grounds that belong to the owner, you can get to Dartmoor in minutes to enjoy vast open spaces where you can walk for miles.

It’s only a short drive to the English Riviera, a stretch of sandy coastline peppered with traditional seaside towns. Torquay, Paignton and Brixham are delightful places that draw families from all over the UK all year around.
