Things To Do in Chickerell, Nr Radipole
Chickerell is on the edge of Weymouth. There’s a village feel to this town, and it offers The Lugger Inn, well known for its Sunday carvery, and a couple of friendly cafes.
To the west of Chckerell is Chesil Beach, so close that you can walk there. This area of scientific interest is made up of an 18-mile strip of pebbles with water on both sides. Dogs are welcome 12 months of the year on this part of the Dorset coastline and it’s a favourite spot for walkies no matter what the weather. At the end of Chesil Beach is the tied island of Portland.
The castle here was built on Henry Vlll’s instruction and it captures the imagination of all who visit it. From up on the ramparts, the views are incredible, and down in the Tudor kitchen you can see how things would have looked in a bygone age. A magnificent lighthouse stands at the southern tip of the island called Portland Bill. Just in front you can see waves crashing against the rocks – it’s a much-photographed spot.
Head to Weymouth for a sandy beach backed by a promenade. All the fun of the seaside can be found here such as amusements, ice-creams, fish and chips and a water park. The Sealife centre is a big hit with little ones, and Brewers Quay is a favourite haunt for antique collectors and lovers of vintage clothing.
To explore further along the Heritage Coast, drive to Lyme Regis where you can hunt for fossils on the beach. The Cobb harbour is a pretty place to look at boats, and it’s the best place to get fresh seafood.
If you can tear yourself away from Magnolia Cottage and the great views from the patio area, there is a lot to see nearby. Weymouth has long been a favoured holiday spot with families of all ages, and it’s just minutes away from the cottage.
Chesil Beach is a natural phenomena that you have to go and see if you’re in this area, and Portland offers a lighthouse, castle and a choice of sea sports you can book such as windsurfing and sailing.
Poole, Lulworth, Durdle Door and Lyme Regis can all be reached with ease – the hardest thing about this break away is deciding what to see first. And as this holiday home in Dorset is dog friendly, you can take your pooch along with you so you can all have a great time together.
