Things To Do in Chickerell, Nr Nottington
Chickerell is a quiet town in Dorset that is on the outskirts of Weymouth seaside resort and walking distance from Chesil Beach and East Fleet Lagoon.
This town is close to Weymouth, but retains a village feeling. The Lugger Inn pub offers a carvery on Sundays, and there’s also a couple of cafes to choose from. Head into Weymouth for a huge selection of eateries, including fish and chips shops that have to be tried if you’re on the coast.
As well as a long sandy beach, Weymouth has a Sealife centre, amusements, a promenade and a water park. By the old harbour there are antique stores and craft stalls in the Brewers Quay. And there are plenty of shops to browse for some retail therapy. Chesil Beach is a well-known part of the Dorset coast.
This thin bar of shingle goes on for 18 miles and has created a body of water called East Fleet. It’s a popular place for people to walk their dogs especially on a sunny day. The Isle of Portland is at the end of Chesil Beach, a tied island it is great for sports like windsurfing, sailing and paddle boarding.
At Portland Bill, on the southern tip, there’s a light house and visitor centre that is worth a visit. Portland Castle is great to tour – a fortification built by Henry VIII with a Tudor kitchen, gun platform and amazing views from the ramparts.
Go further along the Heritage coast to Lyme Regis, a charming seaside town that has inspired authors and poets. The harbour here is a wonderful place to stroll and the restaurants here serve fresh seafood. It’s also the place to go fossil hunting on the beach
With a lovely patio at the back giving you long views across the Dorset countryside, you will want to spend your days sitting outside enjoying the peace and quiet.
The 2 bedrooms and roomy living space are ideal for a family who want to get away from it all. But with so much to do nearby, you owe it to yourself to get out and explore. Weymouth is just minutes away with all the delights of a traditional seaside town.
There are plenty of other coastal places to visit as well, such as Poole, Lyme Regis, Lulworth and Durdle Door. Many of the beaches have dog friendly areas so you can take your pooch along for a day out too. Chesil Beach, just minutes from Sunset Cottage, welcomes doggies all year and is a favourite spot for lots of pet owners.
