Things To Do in Bala

This quaint stone cottage is surrounded by natural beauty. Snowdonia National Park is right on your doorstep. This dramatic landscape should not be missed.

The rugged peaks of Snowdonia are among the most ancient rock formations on earth. With that comes a culture that is just as ancient. The music and poetry dates back to the Bronze Age.

More than half of the local population speak Welsh as their mother tongue, which is one of the oldest spoken languages in Europe. Snowdonia also boasts the highest peak in England and Wales, the highest continuous waterfall in Wales also called Fairy Falls and a village named for prayers in the forest.

There is a stunning coastline with no less than 6 sandy beaches with a number of activities to keep you and your pet occupied. Take the time to visit the small market towns like Aberdyfi, Beddgelert, Betws-y-Coed and the historic Bala. Bala has a wide range of cafés and restaurants, a leisure centre with swimming pool and sports hall. Bala Lake – the largest natural lake in Wales has a number of exciting activities for thrill seekers.

Prepare to get the adrenaline pumping with some white water rafting. It’s also just a minute’s stroll to Llanuwchllyn railway station, home of the Bala Lake Railway, which offers a sensational journey along the lakeside to Bala.

Visit one of the many impressive castles and ruins dotted around the countryside. Snowdonia has some of the most remarkable in Wales. Two of those are Dolwyddelan Castle and Gwydir Castle.

Take on some of the Mountain Paths in the Snowdonia National Park. There are nine mapped trails up Snowdon and Cader Idris all graded as hard mountain walks. Llanberis Path PYG Track is for experienced walkers and Miners Track is a safe mountain walk for the inexperienced hiker.
